Huawei B315 LTE CPE

After testing, I would describe Huawei B315 LTE CPE as a modern budget “workhorse” with a set of features sufficient for most users. But many desirable technical delights you will not find here.

Supporting LTE cat.4, a theoretical maximum data rate of 150 Mbit/s for downlink and the data up to 50 Mbit/s for uplink could be achieved. Wi-Fi standard is 802.11b/g/n. Wi-Fi range includes only 2.4GHz, No 5GHz. The maximum number of connections for Wi-Fi is 32 users.

Huawei B315 4G Router2

Huawei B315 LTE Router supports network standards: GSM 900/1800 MHz, UMTS 900/2100 MHz, LTE-FDD 800/1800/2600 MHz, LTE-TDD in the range of 2600 MHz. There is no back-up battery. SIM-card is normal, miniSIM format. On the back, there are four LAN ports, one universal LAN/WAN. USB port is for connecting a printer or USB-drive. And there is RJ11 jack for connecting a wired phone. They write about the support VoIP and VoLTE on the next version of the software, CSFB support is present and works fine. Two Connectors for MIMO external antennas is there, the SMA standard, external antenna is not included with the B315 Router. If you need the external antenna for LTE CPE B315, you can check it here: http://www.4gltemall.com/4g-antenna-two-sma-connector.html

Huawei B315 Antenna

The B315 router can provide very good coverage of Wi-Fi. And it’s clear and fast to switching between wired and mobile internet in both directions. The advantages of the B315 are in compact size; there is almost no need to configure anything, a good reception on the built-in antenna, a clear work and visual indication. The disadvantages are lack of Wi-Fi range of 5MHz, no tweaks and additional features. For example, no built-in torrent client, the USB-port does not support a second modem connection etc..

huawei-b315-4g-SIM card slot

The package box of Huawei B315 includes quite compact router, user Manual, an Ethernet cable, external power supply to the output current of 1 A. Once again, external antenna not included, and you will have to buy yourself if necessary. There are two colors available: black and white. The body of B315 LTE CPE is made of plastic but feel good if hold it in hand.

huawei-b315-4g-Ethernet ports

As already written, all the connectors and other features are hidden on the back panel, including slots for external antennas, which in most cases you do not need and they are covered by a removable cap.

The button to activate WPS is on the top of Huawei B315 Router, for the on-off, the button must be held down for 3 seconds. Besides the WPS button, it’s the power button. On the bottom of the CPE B315, all the necessary information about the network SSID, passwords, etc. are listed on the sticker. At the left side of the external antenna, it’s the SIM card slot, it’s for standard SIM card size. There is a plastic cover on the slot, user have to pull the cover out and then insert the SIM card.

Huawei-B315-WPS and power button

Control

The settings control of the Huawei B315 router could be done via the Web-interface (http://192.168.8.1 address) and mobile application. The WEB-interface, everything is pretty standard, and user can select the network mode manually, there is 4G-LTE, 3G and 2G variants provided. On the main page and in the status bar (top right) shows the type of Internet connection, which is currently running a router and distributes online consumers.

Huawei B315 web interface

In the Statistics page, the traffic consumed via the mobile network is correctly displayed. Unfortunately, there is no settings for daily traffic accounting, only for the period of one month. The router can “broadcast on the air” to 4 SSID at the same time, enabled by default one.

Work with external antennas can be flexibly adjusted using one external + internal, two external or two internal. By default, the internal antenna, so just connect external will not change anything; do not forget to change the settings to external in the WEB-interface. User can also run the latest version of HiLink under Android. In principle, the functionality of the application is enough in most cases. Send and read incoming SMS through it is too comfortable.

huawei-b315-4g-lte-cpe

It’s declared by the manufacturer that the Wi-Fi coverage range is up to 250 meters. But manufacturers say a lot of things, but in practice conditions are always far from ideal. Switching from a wired connection to the cellular network and vice versa automatically works out for 2-3 seconds. The default priority is given to the wired connection settings.

Voice calls (incoming and outgoing) in the LTE network are also normal (CSFB). It’s promised in the next software update, the support for VoLTE will be supported.

Summary

The Huawei B315 4G Router is a common LTE wireless gateway and no special feature. But it’s a decent wireless router for home or small office. And it’s enough for daily usage. If you want 4G Router with higher configuration, you may check Huawei E5186 Router LTE Cat6 router or ASUS 4G-AC55U LTE Router.

The Huawei E5175 can work with SIM card directly. The SIM card slot is at the side body. Open the cap on the sim card slot, user can insert a valid SIM card. After power on, user can get connected with wireless network. Below the SIM card slot, the WPS and WiFi buttons are there. Between them is the hole to reset the Huawei E5175 to factory default.

Huawei E5175 bottom

From the appearance and interfaces, the Huawei E5175 is very similar to Huawei E5186 Router. We will take a test next time to see which one could provide faster wireless network. But from the specifications, Huawei E5175 is a good router which could work on 4G LTE/3G UMTS/2G GSM networks. Up to 64 wireless users could get connected with Huawei E5175. The most important is that it can achieve peak download speed to 300Mbps and upload speed to 50Mbps.

huawei E5175s-22 sim card slot and WPS button

Currenlty, there is few 4G routers which could support such high speed connection. If you are looking for a LTE Router with the latest technology supporting LTE-advanced network, Huawei E5175 is a trustful one to consider.

Huawei E5170 LTE Cat4 Cube Review

Huawei had a series of web cube for wireless networks at home. The wireless cube looks like a nice furniture rather than a wireless gateway. We had introduced the Webcube B153(7.2Mbps), Webcube B183(21Mbps), Huawei E8259 Speed box(42Mbps) before. Now we have a new 4G/LTE Speed box/Cube E5170.

HUAWEI E5170S-22 LTE CPE (6)

Huawei E5170 is a powerful LTE (4G) router. The device is a combination of fixed and mobile router, supporting a top speed of up to 150 Mbit/s for downloads (on LTE 4G). Huawei e5170 Home Net Box is one of the fastest wireless routers available in the market.

HUAWEI E5170S-22 LTE CPE (3)

Built with a rechargeable battery and docking station, Huawei E5170 Home Net Box basically consists of two parts: the current router with integrated modem and wireless module for up to 32 wireless devices, as well as a docking station that provides the router with power and also contains an RJ45 Ethernet LAN interface connection.  The special feature is the built-in battery for Huawei E5170, which allows wireless operation for up to 2.5 hours without docking stations, as expected, the E5170 cube could be working like a 4G mobile pocket router.

190182_2235_draft

The configuration is usually through a web interface, so that the browser of any terminals can do the setup. Configuration through the application of Huawei Mobile WiFi is also possible.  Huawei E5170 speed Box integrates a fast LTE modem which his supports GSM, UMTS and LTE cellular standards. In the fourth generation, wireless network could reach up to 150 Mbit/s for downloads and up to 50 Mbit/s for uploads due to the use of LTE Category 4 technology. Using UMTS, the maximum speed for downloads could achieve 42.2Mbit/s provided the network is equipped with DC-HSPA+ technology.

190182_2277_draft

If coverage is poor, Huawei E5170 LTE Cube has two external antenna connectors for LTE or UMTS. The connection would be much more useful for computers, tablets and other devices via Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and browsing speed could reach up to 300 Mbit/s, unfortunately, neither the 5 GHz band nor fast Gigabit 802.11ac Wi-Fi is supported.

Huawei Presents B5328 4 X 4 MIMO LTE Router

Around the end of 2016, Huawei offers the world’s first commercial LTE router B5328 with 4 × 4 MIMO antenna technology. The B5328 LTE Router offers significantly higher data rates in a correspondingly equipped network than devices with 2 × 2 MIMO antenna technology. The Huawei B5328 is the successor to the popular Huawei E5186 LTE Router. In the free trade, the Huawei B5328 is currently not available; however, interested network operators and service providers can order the device on request and thus make available to their customers.

Based on the GCT’s GDM7243Q, the only LTE-A chip commercially available that offers 4×4 MIMO capability, enables Huawei B5328 LTE CPE with higher data rates and throughput while using limited bandwidth (“double speed” with the same limited bandwidth), which is a scarce commodity for network operators.

huawei-b5328-b5328-155-1

By integrating the receiver with four antennas and equipping the base station with four transmitters, mobile operators can maximize the use of their spectrum. Huawei B5328 is the successor to Huawei E5186 4G LTE Router. With GDM7243Q chipset, Huawei B5328 cpedelivers LTE Category 5/6/7 throughputs with double speeds enabled by 4X4 MIMO technology, and supports Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and eMBMS (LTE broadcast) as well as other advanced features.

The Huawei B5328 was already introduced in December 2015, but so far only supplied to very few operators, as most LTE networks currently set to 2 × 2 MIMO antenna technology and the B5328 router has no appreciable advantage in such networks to the predecessor model Huawei E5186 Router. You can buy the B5328 for example in Tunisia with the provider mobilis.

Some European network operators have already carried out tests with the Huawei B5328, for example the Czech Vodafone. Vodafone has achieved test with 4 × 4 MIMO antenna technology and Carrier Aggregation around 300 Mbit/s in the downlink.

huawei-b5328-b5328-155-2

The Huawei B5328 has no telephone function in the currently available version B5328-155 and has only a single RJ45 Ethernet connection on the back. The WLAN module works only on 2.4 GHz (WiFi 802.11 b/g/n), the exact speed I could not find unfortunately. Basically, the B5328 appears not to be a high-end router in the face of quite meager facilities, while the previous Huawei E5186 LTE CPE had a much greater variety of functions (Wi-Fi 802.11ac and 4x Gigabit Ethernet).

The Huawei B5328 LTE router will also come to the market in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. As we know, the China Mobile will also use this device for the upgraded LTE-Advanced TD-LTE network. From today’s point of view, there is not much to be in favor, as network operators rely on 2 × 2 MIMO antenna technology, higher modulation (256QAM) and frequency bundling to increase the speeds in their LTE networks. Currently, the Huawei E5186 is still dominating the market for 2 X 2 MIMO LTE networks.

Today, we would like to recommend a few LTE Category 6 routers for home or SOHO office.

lte-cat6-max-download-speeds-and-upload-speeds

Huawei E5186

Huawei E5186 is the world’s first 4G LTE Cat6 router for LTE advanced networks. With the carrier aggregation technology, users can access internet and surfing at 300mbps download speed and 50Mbps upload. The download speed is almost double faster than that from LTE CAT4, which could achieve download speed to 150mbps. To support various LTE frequency bands from different carriers, the Huawei E5186 CPE has two sub-models now as below:

* Huawei E5186s-22a: LTE Band 1/3/7/8/20/38 (FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz, TDD 2600MHz)

Huawei E5186s-61a: LTE Band 3/7/28/40 (FDD 700/1800/2600MHz TDD 2300MHz)

huawei_e5186_4g_router_lte_cat6

Of course, the 3G DC-HSPA+/UMTS and qual-band GSM networks are backward compatible. The WiFi standard is 802.11a/b/g/n/ac on dual bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz). What’s more, the Huawei E5186 could support up to 64 wireless devices to access internet through WiFi. And there are four RJ45 ports for LAN, one of which is also for WAN. Two RJ11 ports are for telephone. One USB port and one SIM card slot are available. There is also possibility to connect external antenna to the E1586 router, on the back, there are two connectors for external antennas.

Vodafone B4000

If you are familiar with Huawei wireless gateways, you may know the Vodafone B4000 is the customized Huawei E5186. The predecessor model Vodafone B3000 comes from Huawei B593s-22. On the Vodafone router, the Huawei logo is changed to Vodafone. And the firmware is customized for Vodafone. Other features and functions are completely the same as Huawei E5186.

vodafone-b4000

So if you don’t like the Vodafone brand, Huawei E5186 could fully replace Vodafone B4000. If you want to know more details about Vodafone B4000, click here: http://www.4gltemall.com/vodafone-b4000-4g-lte-cat6-wifi-router.html

ZTE MF286

ZTE is always following the steps of Huawei and presents similar products to huawei. So the appearance of ZTE MF286 somewhat looks like Huawei E5186. The interfaces in MF286 are the same to E5186. The chipset of ZTE MF286 is Qualcomm WTR3925 and MDM9230. But Huawei E5186 is on its own chipset. The highlight of ZTE MF286 is that there is an inserted battery with 3000mAh, which means user can take MF286 outdoor or on the go. Other features are similar to E5186. We usually say ZTE is copying Huawei, but we also see the innovation in ZTE products.

Design

Here we can find the LTE CPE B310 that has a very simple design, so it is pleasant to use with the furniture at home, and it occupies very little space. The equipment material is totally plastic like any other router or similar devices such as Huawei B593 and Huawei B890 Router.

HUAWEI B310 4G Router wifi (1)

On its front, we find four illuminated icons that indicate the status of the router. The first one (from left to right) indicates that the B310 router is power on, the second shows the status of the connected network (3G, 4G … etc) using colors, the third indicates the status of the Wi-Fi network, the forth indicates the status of the Ethernet connector and finally we have the operator’s signal bars.

At the top we find the power and WPS buttons, the latter is to allow compatible devices to connect to the Wi-Fi network without entering the password.

At the back we will find the two external antennas, below we will see the current connector, the Ethernet port and a telephone line connector. We also see a cover, which when removed will allow us to insert our SIM card (mini SIM format) at the side.

Ethernet / LAN / WAN

The main function you will find on this router is precisely the ability to share your 4G, 3G or 2G data connection via Ethernet or WiFi with many connected users. The WiFi range could cover around 200 meters. The connection is super easy, just connect the modem of your internet provider via Ethernet cable to the Huawei B310 and configure it according to the type of connection that your provider uses.

As an additional feature, the router will also offer you the possibility of cloning a MAC address, if necessary.

HUAWEI B310 4G Router wifi (7)

WiFi

Per my personal experience, I usually have to use Wi-Fi extenders at my home, but with the Huawei B310 Router, it was unnecessary to have the extender, so the WiFi coverage from B310 CPE is really trustful. Also, the speed I had turned out to be very good and with a low ping when connecting.

In terms of configurations, the B310 router is capable of broadcasting up to 4 Wi-Fi networks and each can adjust the frequency channel manually, having channels 1 through 11.

HUAWEI B310 4G Router wifi (3)

As for security, you can decide whether to leave the name of your Wi-Fi network visible or not, in addition to being able to select a WEP, WPA2-PSK or WPA/WPA2-PSK password. If you want even more security, you can filter up to 10 quotas using the MAC address of each device.

Security

The Huawei B310 router turned out to be pretty perfect, in fact I thought it was something simpler, but I was very wrong. Here we can configure a firewall, filter by MAC and IP address, even virtual servers to protect our devices.

You can also open ports easily, apply DMZ configurations, enable UPnP, adjust NAT, filter by domain names or apply Dynamic DNS.

HUAWEI B310 4G Router wifi (6)

Phone Function

Something that totally differentiates from the other 4G routers is the possibility of being able to connect a fixed telephone and make & receive calls using the mobile network of your operator.

You pick up the handset and the Huawei B310 router itself will tone your fixed network phone, being ready to call any phone number, as long as your mobile operator allows it. It’s as if you were making a call from a cell phone, but here you do it from a landline. You can also receive calls in it, and if the landline has a viewfinder, you can see the number of the person who is calling the number assigned to you by your mobile operator.

HUAWEI B310 4G Router wifi (2)

This function proves to be quite useful for those who want to have internet and telephone in a single device. With the Huawei B310, you will have Wi-Fi internet and fixed network telephone to call and receive calls.

Conclusion

There are many 4G Routers in the market and we had the opportunity to try several models, but I personally like the Huawei B310 router much more than the others, since I found it quite useful in terms of functions.

The first thing I liked was its Wi-Fi coverage, which reaches up to 200 meters, which in my case was more than enough to keep me good signal throughout my house without WiFi extender.

HUAWEI B310 4G Router wifi (4)

The external antennas that this router brings, served me enough to improve the reception of the signal from the operator, as this LTE CPE B310 makes the signal is received much more intensely than what you currently receive on a smartphone, which ensures you a very good service.

I personally used Vodafone 4G network and shared it via Wi-Fi in my house, reaching speeds in excess of 50Mbps, which I found remarkable. And since I do not have a fixed telephone at my house, I took advantage of connecting one to this router. The latter is very useful for people who do not have a fixed Internet and telephone service, in addition to saving a lot of money in the monthly fixed charge, having the freedom to choose the plan yourself which suits you.

Considering the full practical functions for users, we would certainly recommend it as an excellent alternative.

Availability

The Huawei B310 4G Router is available locked with network providers, but you can also get the unlocked units from www.4gltemall.com . With unlocked one, you can change your network provider if you are unsatisfied with the networks or services. And you can even take the unlocked Huawei B310 Router to other countries or areas and work with the compatible network providers. And actually, the Huawei B310s-22 has many brother models such as B310s-927, B310As-852, B310s-518 etc. They are for various LTE network providers and compatible different network frequency bands. So before you buy the router, choose the right one for your location and your network provider.

The fourth mobile LTE radio generation is becoming more and more powerful, with LTE Advanced Pro and 4.5G, respectively, currently experiencing a new leap in speed. Some 4G smartphones and mobile hotspots already support LTE category 11 or higher, while LTE Cat6 with 300 MBit/s in LTE router models was the highest of the feelings. A few weeks ago, Huawei presents a new 4G LTE Router, the model number is Huawei B618, which supports LTE of category 11 with up to 600 MBit/s in the downlink and 50 MBit/s in the uplink.

Huawei B618 B618S B618s-22d (1)

Huawei B618 Appearance

The Huawei B618 router visually resembles the design of the Huawei E5180 and can therefore be designated as its successor. The device is square and quite “high” built, on the front there are various LEDs as well as a WPS button. On the back there is a power button, two RJ-45 Gigabit LAN ports (one of which can also function as a WAN port), as well as a USB 2.0 port. There is also an RJ-11 connection for an analog telephone or fax machine as well as the connection for the external power supply. Under one cover are two connectors for an external antenna. There is no battery for mobile use.

Huawei B618 B618S B618s-22d (2)

Huawei B618 Technical Specifications

The modem in the Huawei B618 works with LTE Cat11 and achieves data rates of up to 600 MBit/s in the downlink as well as 50 MBit/s in the uplink. Which LTE Advanced Pro / 4.5G features are supported exactly is still unknown, but in any case, Triple Carrier Aggregation is on board. This allows the Huawei B618 to bundle three different frequency ranges with a maximum of 20 MHz each. To get to 600 MBit/s is enough but not the same, as the 256QAM modulation controls the modem in the downlink. Alternatively, the support for 4 × 4 MIMO would be conceivable whether the B618 can do this, but is currently not clearly identified.

The WLAN module allows connection to up to 64 devices at the same time in the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz band. The maximum data rate is 867 Mbps (802.11 ac), the WLAN antennas are fixed in the Huawei B618 and cannot be exchanged.

 Huawei B618 B618S B618s-22d (3)

Until now, the Huawei B618 only appears in Poland at Play (February 2017), where it is marketed in conjunction with the “4G LTE ULTRA” offer. As mobile radio networks continue to grow, however, it is likely that the Huawei B618 LTE router will also find their way to other countries and to other providers, which is often the case with Huawei LTE router models, however, user should pay close attention to the supported features and frequency bands, as Huawei can often optimize the routers for the respective provider and remove individual functions such as the telephone function. The B618 router available model number Huawei B618s-22d in Poland at Play seems to be unbranded and it may be suitable for the other market in Europe as it supports all important LTE band 1, 3, 7, 8, 20.

Netgear Nighthawk R7000 AC1900 – thanks to LTE-Advanced

With the AC1900 Codename “Nighthawk”, you get an all-round carefree package for modern broadband connections. By using a micro SIM card equipped with a LTE data tariff, LTE speeds of up to 300 Mbit/s can be achieved in the download and a maximum of 50 Mbit/s in the upload. This corresponds to LTE-A of category 6 (CAT6). In order to realize these bandwidths, two-band carrier aggregation with up to 40 megahertz is used. The equipment of the used LTE bands is for the use in European areas without gaps. The most important 4G frequencies in Europe, 800 Megahertz, 1,800 Megahertz and 2,600 Megahertz, are supported by the Nighthawk. If the LTE reception is not sufficient, backward bands can also be used on 3G (UMTS). Here the band 1 (2,100 Megahertz) and 8 (900 Megahertz) are used.

Netgear Netgear R7000 provides powerful hardware

The hardware platform of the LTE router reads quite usable. For example, a 1 gigahertz clocked dual-core processor is working inside the device with 256 MB of RAM. In addition, 128 MB Flash-ROM was integrated. In addition to the connection via WLAN, four LAN ports can also be used for the network connection. In addition, there is an additional port for connecting a cable or DSL modem. A 1.5 meter long Ethernet cable is included to get started. Unfortunately, external LTE antennas cannot be connected.

The cable-connected connection possibilities for end devices such as USB sticks and printers were implemented with 1x USB 2.0 and 1x USB 3.0. WPA and WPA2 with PSK provide the necessary security during data transfer with the WLAN connection, as well as two firewalls (SPI and NAT). An LED on the Nighthawk signals the current operating status. The WPS button for an uncomplicated and fast connection from the terminal to the router is also on board, in addition, the AC1900 is VPN-capable.

Maximum 1.9 Gbit/s bandwidth and open source

What is special in the Netgear AC1900 Router is the possibility to use both an LTE connection as well as cable-bound Internet. Due to the combination of WLAN frequencies 2.4 GHz (with 256 QAM support) and 5 Gigahertz, WLAN ac is theoretically possible up to 1.9 Gbit/s. The high data rate is achieved by combining WLAN at 2.4 and 5 GHz, beamforming technology and triple MIMO via the well-visible paddle antennas. The use of two Internet connections, in this case LTE/UMTS and fixed network, prevents a connection termination. If the 4G signal is weak, the fixed network takes over, the cable-bound interface is interrupted, the mobile radio jumps in. Further safety functions, System optimizations or setting possibilities can be supplemented by programmers thanks to Open Source. You can find the firmware for the AC1900 R7000 “Nighthawk” and other routers.

More and more network providers in the world are upgrading their LTE network to LTE-advanced with carrier aggregation technology. Consequently, LTE terminals are demanded by the carriers and end users. As we had introduced before, the Huawei E5186 LTE router is the world’s first LTE-advanced router for LTE Category 6, and it was available in the market for almost two years.

Here now, huawei release a new LTE Cat6 router, the model number is Huawei B525. Supporting LTE Cat6 up to 300Mbps download speed, huawei B525 4G Router could connect easily with up to 64 users at top speed to the internet. So Huawei B525 router could be always accessible for you and your friends in office or at home for high speed internet access. The B525 router can be connected using a wireless LAN or Ethernet cable.

As we know, the Huawei B525 is already available for the network provider “Play” and “Telenor” in Europe. And the specific variant model number is Huawei B525s-23a. From the model, we can’t tell which LTE frequency bands are supported by the B525 router. But as a sub-model for European market, we suppose it should support LTE Band 1/3/7/8/20(800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz). The router is also backward with 2G and 3G network.

From the appearance, we suppose the Huawei B525 comes from the Huawei B315 and of course get upgraded on technical specifications. Vodafone GigaCube – Huawei B528 LTE Router Released

$

A few days ago, Vodafone has officially presented the GigaCube to public with data tariff plan. The Vodafone GigaCube comes from the Chinese manufacturer huawei and the original model is Huawei B528. As the successor to Huawei E5180 Router, the Huawei B528 LTE router follows the design of E5180 cube but different in details. Of course, the technical features are upgraded as the technology develops. Technically, the Huawei B528 can reach speeds of up to 300 Mbps in the downlink (LTE Cat6), but Vodafone limits the GigaCube data rate to 150 MBit/s.

Huawei B528 Specifications

The Huawei B528 has not been sold in Germany; Vodafone is the first network operator to offer the router here. The focus is clearly on the case design in smart white plastic. But technically, the router is quite up-to-date thanks to the LTE Cat6 modem, Gigabit Ethernet and WLAN ac as the following data sheet shows.

Huawei B528s-23a LTE Router
Dimensions  105 x 105 x 181 mm
Chipset  HiSilicon Balong 722
Mobile communications LTE Cat6 (300/50 Mbit / s), UMTS with DC-HSPA +, GSM / EDGE
Frequency bands  LTE FDD: B1, B3, B7, B8, B20, B32. LTE TDD: B38
Connection Interfaces 1x Gigabit LAN (RJ45), 1x RJ11 (VoIP), 2x external antenna, MicroSIM slot
WLAN standard  IEEE 802.11b / g / n / ac (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz, 2 x 2 MIMO), up to 867 Mbps
Package Content  Huawei B528, power supply, RJ45 LAN cable, quick start guide

What interesting is that the Web Interface is probably not from Vodafone, but in the original Huawei design. The Voice over IP telephone function with the RJ11 connection should function basically, that user could use the Huawei B528 to call over the LTE network with the Vodafone GigaCube data tariff. For more practical performance, here you should wait for first user reports.

First router for LTE Band 32 (1500MHz)

Very interesting in the data sheet is also the indication that the Huawei B528 supports the LTE band 32. This is the frequency range around 1500 Megaherz. Vodafone had bought the radio spectrum in 2015 in this area and could use the tape in the future as a “supplementary downlink” to increase the capacity in the LTE network. Currently, Band 32 has not been used in Germany and there are also hardly any end-user devices supporting LTE 1500 or Band 32. The same is true for LTE Band 38, also this is so far not used in Vodafone, but is supported by the Huawei B528.

Even if the Huawei B528 router can theoretically achieve download speed up to 300 MBit/s and the Vodafone network offers even up to 500 MBit/s in the downlink in some places: the GigaCube, as customized Huawei B528 LTE router,  allows a maximum of 150 MBit/s in the downlink. Actually, Huawei had provided another LTE Cat6 router named Huawei E5186 or Vodafone B4000, which can also reach peak download speed to 300mbps. If you can’t wait the availability of GigaCube B528, you may consider Huawei E5186 OR Vodafone B4000.

LTE CAT 6 modem

The Vodafone GigaCube router, also named Huawei B528s-23a, internally has a modern HiSilicon modem (Balong 722) which supports LTE category 6. In principle, the wireless connection can reach up to 300 MBit/s fast. In the upload, a maximum of 50 MBit/s can be achieved. The chip also supports the most important LTE bands for use in Europe. In detail, the LTE Bands includes band 1, 3, 7, 8, 20 and 32. If the LTE reception is not given, the GigaCube router can also switch to GMS or UMTS/HSDPA. Abroad, Vodafone excludes the use anyway! So you must get the unlocked Vodafone GigaCube if you want to use it abroad.

WLAN function with the GigaCube router

The GigaCube also provide the WLAN module supporting up to WLAN ac, so that wireless LAN with gigabit speed is also possible. The hotspot can bring up to 64 devices on the Internet simultaneously. On this point, the B528 is really powerful than its predecessor Huawei E5180 and E5170.

Other characteristics

Fortunately, there are two antenna ports on the back of the GigaCube router. According to Vodafone, the focus is on use in the stationary and in remote areas. This means you can use the router both at home as a DSL replacement or just traveling as a mobile Internet connection. Mobile use is officially excluded. Thanks to the antenna connections, the reception strength can also be improved in remote areas via external LTE antenna.  The B528 also does not have an information display, but only 4 Info-LEDs on the front. These give the user the most important back-ups, such as signal strength.

The only annoyance with the GigaCube router is that it was dispensed with even a battery. Thus, a permanent, stationary power supply is required. Also the GigaCube missed an SD card slot or USB port. Telephone is not possible by the way.

Conclusion

Based on the Huawei B528, Vodafone offers a powerful, modern router for its GigaCube. The model is practical and comes without much fault. Only the missing battery is annoying. We would do the performance test once we get the GigaCube in hand, keep close eye on www.4gltemall.com if you are interested in Vodafone GigaCube or Huawei B528 LTE Cube.

Huawei E5180 Cube for Congstar Homespot Test

At the IFA, congstar presented its first mobile phone tariff at the beginning of September, which also officially foresees the use of Telekom’s LTE network. However, the offer can only be used in a certain place, for example, to have a broadband internet connection in the caravan, at the campsite or in the student residence.

In the contract, congstar presented a WLAN Cube, also a suitable router manufactured by Huawei, which converts the LTE Internet access into a WLAN signal, which then makes it possible to provide internet for smartphones, tablets and notebooks with a wireless Internet access supply. A device can also be connected directly to the WLAN Cube using an Ethernet cable.

We have s the opportunity to test the homespot rate of congstar together with the WLAN Cube since last week. The SIM card must be inserted into the router slot. The WLAN Cube is then supplied with power via the included power supply unit. The PIN of the SIM card must then be entered. This works via the configuration menu of the router, which can be reached at address 192.168.8.1 via a connected smartphone, tablet or notebook. For future use, the SIM PIN can be stored so that it does not have to be entered again.

Congstar Homespot from Huawei E5180

The WLAN access data and the homespot model are to be found on the underside of the router, which in the original is called Huawei E5180. After initial commissioning, the SSID as well as the password can be customized. In addition, users have the option of switching from the automatic selection of the WLAN channel to manual selection. The WLAN Cube is supported only by the much heavily overloaded 2.4 GHz range. If you want to use a 5 GHz router, you have to check other models such as the latest Huawei B525 and Huawei E5186 wireless gateway. If you want to use your own router instead of the congstar WLAN Cube, you have to make sure that it has the LTE standard and the frequency ranges used around 800, 1800 and 2600 MHz.

However, the test also showed that congstar Homespot is not only working with 4G network. If LTE is not available at the desired location, the cube would work on 3G or 2G network automatically. We have switched the WLAN Cube, however, experimentally via the configuration menu to the GSM-only mode. Afterwards we were shown a strong signal.

In addition to the signal strength of the received mobile network, the configuration menu for the Huawei E5180 router also shows the current connection time and the transferred data volume. The WLAN status and information about the connected users are also available.

congstar as well as the manufacturer Huawei officially speak the E5180 Cube of a WLAN range of up to 250 meters. We have not achieved this value in practice. However, the signal is quite comparable to that of a classic DSL router like an AVM FRITZ! Box 7490. A mobile hotspot is much weaker. If, for example, a Huawei E5776 is only sufficient for supplying a small apartment or a hotel room, the congstar WLAN Cube can quite well cover a one-family house with wireless Internet access.

Speed Test Good

We have continuous operated the wireless hotspot over several days. Internet access was always reliably available. A restart of the router was not required to stay on reception. The two lights on the outside of the device, which on the one hand display WLAN availability and, at the very least, the current strength of the received LTE signal, is practical.

Over several days, we have examined the data transfer rates offered by congstar’s internet access. The provider itself provides up to 20 MBit/s in the downstream. This value was also achieved in the test, whereby the LTE signal strength also plays a role here. If only a medium reception level is displayed on the router, the data throughput also drops.

On average, we reached between 20 and 21 MBit/s in the downstream and 5 to 6.5 MBit/s in the upstream. The response times were between 17 and 25 ms. The congstar homespot therefore provided similar performance data, such as a VDSL-25 connection in the fixed network. Even the somewhat higher latencies compared to the fixed net do not make themselves noticeable with normal surfing, with the use of e-mails, fairs, etc. It may not be the case for gamers, who need the lowest possible ping times.

It should be borne in mind that our performance tests have only been carried out at the location in Hessian Spessart, which is registered as the usage address for the congstar Homespot. We also carried out measurements on different days and at different times of the day. The results were quite similar, with Telekom’s LTE-800 radio cell, which is available here, with a unrestricted data SIM generally providing data rates between 40 and 50 MBit/s in the downstream.

However, our results are not comparable to data rates and ping times at other sites. Depending on the number of users and the user behavior, depending on the network configuration and capacity, there can be significant differences. Above all, in cities it is quite possible that the well-developed LTE network of the Telekom has some overloading phenomena.

In summary, the Huawei E5180 congstar homespot is good for wireless supply at a house, but missing the 5GHz WiFi band. The Ethernet port is also good for desktop and the internet speed is also good for most cases. Vodafone GigaCube (Huawei B528) In First Test

$

Last month, Vodafone has presented the GigaCube for a package of routers and mobile phone rates. The router is the Huawei B528, which is also without Vodafone branding. Only the outer packaging carries the design of the telecommunication service provider. The GigaCube itself has the manufacturer Huawei’s logo and there is no indication of Vodafone. Now we have the opportunity to have closer look at the GigaCube router.

Not suitable for mobile use

The Vodafone GigaCube is 105 x 105 x 181 millimeters in size. The body is not in small size, so you may not take it in hand like Huawei E5787 mobile WiFi hotspots. For this reason alone, the GigaCube is not suitable for mobile use, but it’s cool for the weekend house, the caravan, the hotel room or the apartment. In addition, there is no inserted battery or replacable battery in the Huawei B518 GigaCube. Instead, the unit is powered only by the included power supply.

As an alternative to WLAN, a notebook can also be connected to the router via a network cable. Such a cable is included with the GigaCube. The connector is located on the back of the device. There is also the socket with which the power supply is connected to the mobile hotspot. Under one flap there are also jacks, via which external antennas can be connected to the GigaCube. The connection for a VoIP telephone, which is also located on the back of the router, has been deactivated according to Vodafone specifications. We could not test this so far.

On the front, we can see not only the on/off switch and the WPS button, but also four light-emitting diodes. These indicate whether the B528 GigaCube is powered, whether the WLAN hotspot is available and whether the LAN port is being used. The fourth LED indicates whether the router is connected to the mobile network.

Easy Setup

The GigaCube can be configured via a connected computer, a smartphone or a tablet. The Internet address to configure the router is giga.cube, user need enter it in the Internet browser. The default password for the web front-end is located on the bottom of the router. Here is also the SSID and WLAN password specified. In addition, the SIM card (micro SIM format) slot is located on the underside.

After the SIM card is inserted directly and the GigaCube is switched on, the LED for the mobile radio reception is initially red. Reason: The SIM PIN must be entered via the web-based menu if the PIN search on the SIM card has not been switched off, which is at least partly the case with the operator cards defined for the GigaCube. After this, the initial setting can be made. A personalized SSID can be assigned, which can be connected with a special password.

On page 2, you can read about the function in the configuration menu, and to what extent, the GigaCube also allows the use of SIM cards from other networks. During the initial setup, the access data for the router menu can also be adjusted. In addition to own WLAN data for the hotspot on 2.4 GHz, the individualization for 5 GHz is also integrated. The settings can be changed subsequently. Furthermore, the user can decide whether to operate parallel to 2.4 and 5 GHz or only on one of these frequency ranges. In principle, the WLAN function can also be switched off completely if, for example, only a device via a network cable is connected to the router for the Internet access.

SIM free & Unlocked

We have also used a SIM card from other network provider such as O2, which has worked smoothly in the GigaCube. Say: The Vodafone GigaCube router was not equipped with a SIM lock or Netlock and it can be used with any operator cards. The access data for foreign networks may not be recognized automatically.

To do this, a new profile must only be created in the Connection Setup – Profile Management menu.

What Interesting is the possibility to set up a VPN directly on the Huawei B528 router. The WLAN channels can be selected manually. These are automatically assigned by default. The user interface is very similar to Huawei’s other mobile hotspots. The WLAN range is significantly higher than the Huawei E5776 mobile hotspot, which we had tested for comparison.

Fast Wireless Internet Connection

The GigaCube supports speeds of up to 300 MBit/s in the downstream via LTE, especially on the LTE-Advanced networks. Also Internet connections can be established with the router via UMTS/HSPA and GPRS/EDGE. In the first test, the Huawei B528 sold by Vodafone GigaCube left a good impression. The setup is intuitively possible (can be seen from the fact that the access data for the 5 GHz, WLAN area must be adjusted later) and the WiFi range is quite comparable to that of a FRITZ! Box 7490, which we had tested at the same Place.

The Vodafone GigaCube could serve as a DSL replacement, but less suitable for the more extensive file exchange and intensive streaming. Exciting is the possibility to use any SIM card. Thus, the Huawei B528 GigaCube can also be bought at the comparatively low price from www.4gltemall.com, for example on a holiday abroad, where the GigaCube tariff is not available, can also be used with a local SIM card.

Huawei B528s-23a(Vodafone GigaCube) Features and Test

The Huawei-built Vodafone Giga Cube (model number Huawei B528s-23a) is a mobile LTE router that brings Internet-enabled devices in the vicinity to the Internet. As known from the domestic WLAN router, users can use their smartphone, tablet or computer to enter a password into the Giga Cube network and thus connect to the device. The Giga Cube, in turn, connects to the Vodafone LTE mobile network. This is the case with speeds of up to 150 MBit/s on the Internet.

Fast WLAN ac, LTE theoretically with 300 Mbit/s

The Vodafone Giga Cube supports the LTE standard Cat.6 and is therefore theoretically designed for download rates of up to 300 Mbit/s. In the Giga Cube tariff from Vodafone, however, the actual maximum data rate is limited to 150 Mbit/s in the download. In the future, Vodafone should screw the LTE speed up in the tariff and the maximum upload is 50 Mbps.

Thanks to the WLAN specification 802.11 b/g/n/ac, the Giga Cube uses the latest state-of-the-art WLAN technology to provide the best possible data transmission. The transmission in the frequency ranges runs at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The range of the Giga cubes depends, of course, on the local conditions and, for example, on separating walls; In an open environment, LTE routers of this type reach up to 250 meters.

Up to 64 internet-capable devices such as smartphones, tablets or notebooks can be connected to the Giga Cube at the same time via WLAN. Alternatively, a Gigabit LAN port is also available on the back of the device. A TV, a computer or a game console can also be connected to the LTE router via LAN cable.

Surfing only with power supply

For use, the Vodafone Giga Cube is dependent on a permanent power connection. Anyone who wants to be online via the router needs a power supply nearby. At home, in a hotel or in a holiday apartment, this should not be a problem. At the campsite, a power connection is usually also possible. Even if the Giga Cube LTE router does not have a battery, the WLAN from the outlet is nevertheless very flexible.

Installation

Installation of the Vodafone Giga Cubes is actually very fast: simply insert valid SIM card into the SIM card slot on the back. Then the Giga Cube is still plugged into the socket. The Giga Cube then automatically dials into the Vodafone mobile network to establish the Internet connection. After that, of course, the used Internet-enabled device must be connected to the LTE router. This is usually done by entering the WLAN password – as is the same as used by the domestic WLAN router.

LTE network Keeping Upgrade

Vodafone has significantly expanded LTE in its mobile network in the last few years and is continuing this expansion on an ongoing basis. The LTE network cover is correspondingly high for Vodafone customers, but there are still areas where no LTE coverage exists. In addition, the maximum possible data rates vary from place to place. Speeds of up to 50 Mbit/s are already available in many places, but higher speeds of up to 150 Mbit/s are more rare. Where no LTE is available, the cube accesses the 3G network (UMTS) or GSM (2G) in an emergency.

All in all, the Internet speed usable with the Vodafone Giga Cube depends on the conditions on site. But even a data rate of 10 Mbit/s and more offers a neat surfing. It is also recommended to set the router for better reception close to the window. Actually, if you use unlocked Vodafone Gigacube or Huawei B528 Cube, you may get much faster speed to 300mbit/s on your own network provider rather than Vodafone.

Vodafone GigaCube Test

The Vodafone Gigacube is easy to use. First, the SIM card must be inserted, as soon as the GigaCube is powered, it can then go directly. The Vodafone “WLAN from the socket” is ready. The Internet speed in the Praxistest was quite high. Although we did not reach the maximum possible speed to 150 Mbit/s, the average available is more than 50 Mbps, which is always comfortable Internet surfing. The good LTE network availability in the state capital of Baden-Wuerttemberg does not distort the test result by any means, because Vodafone scores with a high network quality throughout Germany. Currently, more than 90% of the population can use Vodafone LTE.

The LTE network availability fits with the Vodafone GigaCube, in the daily use we had always a very good Internet line available. We also have nothing to complain about in the setup, WLAN-enabled devices can easily be integrated into the home network. This works either by entering a password or by using the WPS button. And Vodafone has also thought of the domestic PC, by means of network cable, the PC can also access internet easily.

If you want, the GigaCube can assign its own network name. After the first time the internet browser is started, the login area for the GigaCube user interface is automatically activated. Here you should also assign your own password directly. After this is done, the current data volume can be viewed here. This is possible on the smartphone or tablet alternatively also by app.

A great advantage of the GigaCube is the flexible use. This allowed us to put the LTE router into operation practically anywhere, only one power supply must be available on site. In the house or apartment it is recommended to place the GigaCube at the place with the best net quality.

Summary

Vodafone Gigacube is a good home router needing a power supply when working. It supports fast wireless surfing speed while the Ethernet cable connection is also possible for PC. The Gigacube is easy to setup and connect; management via APP or web interface is possible. If you are considering changing the DSL router, you may consider the Huawei B528 or Vodafone Gigacube for network upgrade with much faster speed.

Huawei Offers 4G LTE Cat.11 WiFi Router B618

In the forest of WiFi routers proposed by the manufacturer, some routers are sometimes only available in some countries. The new CPE Huawei B618 joins the family of 4G category 11 routers recently. As a reminder, category 11 (3GPP rel. 12) allows peak downstream rate of 600 Mbps and 50 Mbps in upload. The category 11 specifies the aggregate of 3 carriers (256 QAM) in download for a single frequency in upload. 2 x 2 and 4 x 4 MIMO support is possible.

Here now in the market, there are two models for Huawei B618, they are Huawei B618s-22d and B618s-65d. They support different network frequency bands as below:

Huawei B618s-22d Supports:

– 4G LTE Band 1/3/7/8/20/38 (FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz & TDD 2600MHz)
– DC-HSPA+/HSPA+/HSPA/UMTS:Band 1/8 2100MHz/900MHz
– EDGE/GPRS/GSM:Band 2/3/5/8 1900MHz/1800MHz/850MHz/900MHz

Huawei B618s-65d Supports:

– 4G LTE Band 1/3/5/7/8/28 (FDD 700/850/900/1800/2100/2600MHz & TDD 2300MHz)
– DC-HSPA+/HSPA+/HSPA/UMTS:Band 1/5/8 2100MHz/900MHz/850MHz
– EDGE/GPRS/GSM:Band 2/3/5/8 1900MHz/1800MHz/850MHz/900MHz

We suppose there will be other sub-models available Like Huawei E5186 4G LTE Cat6 router in near future to meet various demand from the network providers over the world. Currently, the Huawei B618 is only marketed in Poland as of February. Nevertheless, the displayed bands (and firmwares) should ensure good compatibility on F networks.

On the back side, you will see the power button, a WPS activation button. A USB 2.0 port is available for media sharing. An Ethernet LAN port allows wired distribution and a second port allows either an Ethernet output or a WAN input. This WAN input option assumes the presence of a Failover mode in the event of loss of either the WAN link or the 4G link. An RJ11 port is also used to connect a phone or fax. The AC power connector is located at the lower end, knowing that the Huawei B618 does not have an internal battery for standalone operation. Finally, a hatch (not visible here) contains 2 external antenna connectors for 3G & 4G antennas. The connector type is TS-9 and we recommend below the external antennas to get better signal:

On the WiFi side, the WLAN module supports the 802.11ac standard with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies for a maximum rate of 867 Mbps. The router supports 64 simultaneous WiFi connections (32 per band) via 2 non-removable internal antennas.

Huawei B618 is compatible with the Hilink® smartphone administration application. For now, the Huawei B618 router is distributed in Poland via the PLAY operator in various monthly data offers. And we could also provide the unlocked Huawei B618 Router on www.4gltemall.com Case to follow.

Huawei E5180s-22 4G WiFi Router for Bouygues 4G Box

The French network provider Bouygues Télécom offers a 4G data plan for areas with poor ADSL coverage. The plan details has been using available especially in the areas eligible for this offer. The 4G data was offered to improve Internet reception for ADSL subscribers in poorly covered areas.

To do this, the operator proposes a 4G “Box” with a SIM card and an “unlimited” monthly data plan. The 4G Box is actually the Huawei E5180 LTE Cube, which is a 4G Wireless Router and working with the 4G SIM card. To look at it more closely, the LTE router provide WiFi signal with an Ethernet connection.

Basically, the 4G router is praiseworthy for underserved users, especially with an unlimited monthly data offer. However, this offer is accompanied by many restrictions that greatly reduce the notion of unlimited internet BOX, although it is important for users to provide better internet experience.

First, you have to be eligible for the offer. The offer only includes data, excluding the Voice and of course the TV. The Huawei E5180 LTE router is not mobile, so user can’t take it outdoor for holiday or weekend activities. Bouygues reserves the possibility of limiting the bit rates in video download to 2 Mbps if necessary.

The 4G+ is not available. The “BOX” Huawei router (LTE Cube E5180), was widely distributed by operators as part of data offer, especially by Orange at one time. The E5180 router only supports the 4G category 4, so is limited to a theoretical rate of 150 Mbt/s for download and 50 Mbt/s for upload. It’s not bad to compensate for a very bad ADSL speed, but damage for a so-called “widely” 4G+.

The Huawei E5180 supports WiFi 802.11 b/g/n but is limited to 2.4 GHz. The 5GHz is not available. If the model is  Huawei E5180s-22, the supported bands are 4G LTE Band 1/3/7/20/38 (FDD 800/1800/2100/2600 MHz), and it supports up to 32 wireless users simultaneously. An RJ45 port and an RJ-11 port are available for WAN/LAN connection and telephone.

However, the solution of the LTE link via 4G Mifi routers is a good alternative for underserved areas in ADSL connection but correctly covered in 4G, the required condition is an adequate antenna infrastructure and backhaul Fiber capable of absorbing many connections with a large flow, a LTE router serving one or more PCs not the equivalent of a smartphone.

Actually, there is new LTE router available which is similar to Huawei E5180, and with higher specification, which could supports LTE-A network and faster downstream connection. The new model is Huawei B618, which is a LTE cat.11 router, you could check more details about if on www.4gltemall.com .

Difference Between Huawei B618 and E5180 LTE Cube

You may use the Huawei E5180 LTE Cube at home for wireless internet connection. It’s a good wireless router in cool shape like a cube. With the development of LTE networks, the end-users and the network providers have higher demand for the user equipments. Here comes the new LTE router Huawei B618, which seems to be upgraded from the Huawei E5180 cube and in this article, we will see what’s the difference between the Huawei B618 and E5180, and what functions have been improved from the old one to the new one.

Appearance

Following the Cube shape design of Huawei E5180, Huawei B618 is also in white color, but has larger body and higher if stands on a desk. Perhaps because the B618 has more interfaces for multi-functions, the B618 weights much more than E5180. On the front of Huawei E5180, there is only one signal indicator and one WiFi indicator, but on the B618, there are three signal indicators, and the power, status, LAN, WiFi, mode indicators & WPS button are listed.

On the back, Huawei E5180s-22 has one LAN port, one telephone port and one power plug port. The E5180s-610 only has one LAN ports, no telephone port. Two connectors for external antenna are list at other side of the body. Huawei B618 has two LAN ports(one is also for WAN), one USB 2.0 port, one telephone port and power plug port. What’s more, B618 router also has the power button and two connectors for external antenna, which are covered by a small cap.

On the top side, Huawei E5180 has the Huawei logo but it’s empty on the Huawei B618 top side. They both have one label on the bottom, which indicates the model number, SSID, WiFi key/password, power rating, IMEI and S/N number, and other certification logo. The Huawei B618 has extra WPS Pin on the label. And they both has the SIM card slot at the bottom and uses a Micro SIM card.

Technical Specifications

As a LTE Category 4 router, huawei E5180 can support peak download speed up to 150Mbps and upload speed to 50mbps. The new Huawei B618 LTE Cat11 router could achieve almost 4 times of the speed from E5180, i.e download speed to 600mbps. Huawei E5180 can support maximum 32 users to access internet while Huawei B618 can support 64 WiFi users, which is double of that from E5180.

The WLAN standard of Huawei E5180 is iEEE 802.11 b/g/n on single band 2.4GHz. The Huawei B618s-22d can support the latest 802.11 ac besides a/b/g/n on dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz).

Management

The two routers could both be managed from the web interface in the browser, but Huawei also provide the APP to manage the routers from Smartphones or Pads.

It’s no doubt that the Huawei B618 with higher specs is much better than E5180, but frankly speaking, the Huawei E5180 cube is enough for most users at home or office. If you don’t have too much requirements for the router, Huawei E5180 is budget one to recommend. Huawei B618 is also good to recommend because it’s future-proof and would provide fantastic surfing experience under LTE-advanced networks.
